Situated along the famous Hanover Street, this delicious and inviting Italian restaurant is the oldest in the North End.
The Ambiance
As you stroll down Hanover towards the Old North Church, look for the vintage maroon Cantina Italiana sign towering on your left. Once inside there is a small bar where you can start off with a refreshing aperitif. Various Italian red and white wines and mixers are offered.
Along the side wall is a scenic mural straight out of the Venetian canals. At first glance, you'd swear you were actually there. In the back are sizeable booths to accommodate large groups. Family-style portions are available upon request. If you're dining with your romantic sweetheart, there are smaller booths to accommodate.
For lunch, you'll find the environs to be quite luminous. With a booth in the front, you can people watch along Hanover. Come nightfall, as the natural light dims, the atmosphere assumes a more intimate setting.
On the Menu
Some choice antipasti selections include: Antipasto all' Italiana, spread with fresh Italian meats, aged cheeses and a spritz of olive oil; and the Crostini e Gamberi, served with butterfly shrimp and topped with wild mushrooms and prosciutto.
For seafood lovers some popular main courses include: Bombolotti del Marinaio, served with sautéed lobster tail and claw meat and prepared in a marinara sauce atop freshly made Bombolotti pasta; and the Zuppa di Mara, overflowing with bay scallops, butterfly shrimp, New England littlenecks, mussels and calamari.
