Day One - Boston Trip
Published On: Dec 12, 2006

A great way to explore the city of Boston is to simply walk around. It's relatively small, and if you get lost, chances are you'll turn a corner and realize exactly where you are. So take a day and stroll around and discover the vintage architecture, lush parks, unique shops and diverse culture.  As you meander through the streets some portions will sweep you back to the days of the American Revolution, while other portions show you the modern realm of this great American city.

Charles Street
If you're hotel is by the "T" take the Red Line to Charles Street and start your journey there. If you're in the mood for a few frothy beverages, Seven's Ale House is a great place to get a few pints. This is typically a local neighborhood spot, but even if you're rolling in from out of town, you'll feel at ease.

Continue down Charles Street towards the Boston Commons and Public Gardens.  Along the way are a variety of shops and places to eat. At the end of Charles to the left on Beacon Street is the famous Cheers bar. It's always fun to stop off here for a good times photo out front.

Boston Commons
Next up is the Boston Commons. During the late 1700's this open stretch of land was used for military training. Nowadays, you can attend a concert or play, throw a Frisbee in the park, or merely ease back and relax on the grassy null. Come summertime, resident professionals venture here to seek refuge from the office for a refreshing outdoor lunch.  At the far end of the Commons, the ever-popular Frog Pond bustles with kiddies at play.

Public Gardens
Just across the street are the lush and beautiful Public Gardens. One of the most heralded features here is the family of golden ducklings. If you're traveling with children, the youngsters absolutely love these ducks. Continue around the park and peruse an assortment of droopy willow trees and arboreal splendors.  In the center there's a pond that has swan rides during the summer.

After you've circled around once and taken in the beauty of the Public Gardens, head towards the Ritz-Carlton and step onto Newbury Street. It's by the statue of George Washington sitting proudly upon a great stallion. If you're looking to shop, Newbury is where it's at. If not, there are plenty of cool galleries to see along the way. The Thomas Kinkade and Wentworth galleries are always quite an experience.

Newbury Street
Choose from an assortment of fine restaurants and tasty eateries, when you start getting hungry. Try a couple of slices at Newbury Pizza. Sample some good 'ole fashion American cuisine at Stephanie's on Newbury. When the weather presents, their outdoor patio offers a great chance to people-watch. Have some delectable Asian cuisine at the Wisteria House. If you're still feeling hungry afterwards, pop into J.P Licks for a couple of ice cream scoops or coffee.
